Boxxhead is a York based mixed media artist who creates unique single edition screen prints and larger scale original works on canvas and paper. We met him through the Woolwich Art Fair and our social media pal Lisa Dawson and loved the free form expressive nature of Kevin's art. Once again we are the first gallery outside of London to show the work.
Influenced by Neo Expressionism, Surrealism, Einstein and his Grandad's Bedford Rascal van, Boxxhead mixes stencilled layers, automatic mark making and spontaneous hand drawn images. Boxxhead explores social and political issues through the eyes of a six year old. His approach arcs the 20th century picking up elements of Dubuffet and Basquiat but reassessed for a 21st century audience. Using both words and images he creates a child-like naivety to communicate mature provocative narratives, presenting unfiltered ideas and emotion to gain a better understanding of the world we all live in today.
