A dark and mystical diorama. Kristjana's take on a Flemish Masters' oil painting. The Flemish painters were masters of the oil medium and used it primarily to portray a robust and realistically detailed vision of the world around them. Kristjana brings this 'Oil world' (Oliu heimur in Icelandic) into the modern day by redesigning it into a layered diorama with her mystical creatures and interesting elements woven into the original oil world.
This artwork is a part of a trilogy of dioramas which compliment each other when hung together. The other two dioramas are Oliu Heimur - Taste it and Oliu Heimur - Look Closer. This artwork also comes as a limited edition print.
Kristjana captures the traditional method of dioramas by adapting her trademark collage technique; designing and giclée printing the individual elements, before intricately hand and laser cutting them and slotting the pieces into a bespoke frame and layering to create the sense of reality and depth. The result is a stunning three dimensional paper theatre graphic art piece.
